چکیده

A model is tested to rapidly evaluate the vibrational properties of alloys with site disorder. It is shown that length-dependent transferable force constants exist and can be used to accurately predict the vibrational entropy of substitutionally ordered and disordered structures in Au-Cu, Au-Pd, and Cu-Pd. For each relevant force constant, a length-dependent function is determined and fitted to force constants obtained from firstprinciples pseudopotential calculations. We show that these transferable force constants can accurately predict vibrational entropies of L12-ordered and disordered phases in Cu3Au, Au3Pd, Pd3Au, Cu3Pd, and Pd3Au. In addition, we calculate the vibrational entropy difference between L12-ordered and disordered phases of Au3Cu and Cu3Pt.

The classic metallurgical systems—noble-metal alloys—that have formed the benchmark for various alloy theories are revisited. First-principles fully relaxed general-potential linearized augmented plane-wave ~LAPW! total energies of a few ordered structures are used as input to a mixed-space cluster expansion calculation to study the phase stability, thermodynamic properties, and bond lengths in...

Alloy Oxidation and Porcelain Fused to Alloy Interaction in Noble Alloy Systems

The oxidation and porcelain fusion characteristics of noble alloys containing a variety of minor oxidizable elements, including Cu, Sn, In, Ga, Mn, and Fe were investigated. Four porcelain alloys systems: a Pd-base alloy (Naturelle}, two Pd-Ag-based alloys (Jelstar and Acclaim}, and a high Au-alloy (SMG-3) were examined by scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy after be...

Effects of Sn, Ga, and In additives on properties of Ag-Pd-Au-Cu alloy for ultra-low fusing ceramics.

Nine 35% Ag-30% Pd-20% Au-15% Cu alloys containing 2, 4 and 6 mass% of Sn, Ga or In as an additive metal were experimentally prepared to investigate the effects of different additives and their content on the physical and mechanical properties as well as the bond with a ultra-low fusing ceramic. Both the different additives and their content or either of these two factors significantly influenc...

A Systematic Investigation of p-Nitrophenol Reduction by Bimetallic Dendrimer Encapsulated Nanoparticles

We demonstrate that the reduction of p-nitrophenol to p-aminophenol by NaBH4 is catalyzed by both monometallic and bimetallic nanoparticles (NPs). We also demonstrate a straightforward and precise method for the synthesis of bimetallic nanoparticles using poly(amido)amine dendrimers. The resulting dendrimer encapsulated nanoparticles (DENs) are monodisperse, and the size distribution does not v...

Effect of alumina air-abrasion on mechanical bonding between an acrylic resin and casting alloys.

This study examined the effect of alumina air-abrasion with different pressure on bonding between an acrylic resin and casting alloys. Disk specimens (8 and 10 mm in diameter) were cast from a silver-palladium-copper-gold (Ag-Pd-Cu-Au, Castwell M.C.12) alloy and a titanium-aluminum-niobium alloy (Ti-6Al-7Nb, T-Alloy Tough). The disks were air-abraded with alumina particles (50-70 microm) under ...
